Who Can Volunteer? Anyone aged fourteen and over, including students, parents, working individuals, and retirees, is encouraged to join our team. Help us deliver quality services to over two million area residents.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Collection Assistant: Volunteer assists with organization and maintenance of collection by shelving, shelf reading, processing discards, and removing items based on condition.
  • Technology Assistant: Volunteer assists customers with library technology, computer needs and basic troubleshooting.
  • Program Assistant: Volunteer assists with displays or at program events which may include set-up & take down, greeting customers, crowd management and statistics gathering.
  • Special Event Assistant: Volunteer assists with one-time event.
  • Inventory Assistant at Central Library: Volunteer may assist with maintaining proper inventory in both supply room and with HPL’s collection. Position is Monday-Friday and includes counting items, labeling items and shelves, and helping to get books on the shelves.

Volunteer Schedule: Volunteers are needed six days a week, during all hours of operation, including evenings and weekends. We can accommodate most schedules and also offer seasonal volunteering during spring break, summer, or the holiday season.
