Can I find my ancestors on the Internet?

Answer

There are many excellent websites and databases for genealogical research.  Houston Public Library offers free access to Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org, as well as to many other databases for researching newspapers, military records, or other more specialized collections.

Many of the online resources can be accessed from a home computer if you have a Houston Public Library MyLink library card, which is free for any Texas resident.  When browsing the Internet for your family history, remember to carefully evaluate the information you find and be prepared to check the original sources by visiting libraries, courthouses, and archives.
