How should I start a school project to trace my family history?

Answer

Let us know your research goals for the project.  For example, are you trying to trace back to a particular generation (grandparents, great-grandparents, etc.)?  Are you trying to locate records of an immigrant ancestor?  This will help determine the best research strategy to pursue.  Keep in mind that digging through historical records takes time, so allow yourself enough time to complete the research before it is due.
