What’s the photo/video shoot policy at the Julia Ideson Building?
Answer
All photo and video shoots inside and outside (including the courtyards) are subject to the following criteria:
- These must be scheduled and paid for in advance. Credit/debit card payment is accepted. No sales tax or credit card fees are charged.
- Photo/video shoots are scheduled only during regular business hours.
- Client is instructed to check in at the lobby Security Desk at the Julia Ideson Building and show a copy of their confirmation email and payment receipt from HPL Special Events.
- Photo/video shoots include access to the exterior and interior public spaces of the building. Access for photo shoots does not include the Auditorium or the Exhibit Hall unless given specific permission by HPL Special Events. Security will be notified in writing of any special permission given.
- Photo/video sessions do not have exclusive use of building spaces or have the right to prevent or exclude other patrons’ access.
- Students with a current and valid student ID (high school or college/university) are permitted to do a photo/video shoot for a school project at no charge if a professional photographer is not involved. These should be approved and scheduled in advance through HPL Special Events.
- Graduation photos are not a school project if a professional photographer is involved.
- Photo/video shoots taken only in the courtyards must be scheduled and paid for in advance. These are not free.
- Photos/videos taken with cell phone cameras by visitors/tourists are not considered a photo/video shoot and are allowed.
- Photo/video shoots for commercial use require additional planning, approval and possibly additional costs depending on the requirements of the shoot. Please contact HPL Special Events at hpl.specialevents@houstontx.gov for more information.
